Diary Entry #3

The Tenth of May, 1848

May 10, 1848

Dear Diary,

So far, the weather's been working out for us and we've been traveling strenuously. We've crossed Kansas River and Big Blue River Crossing by waiting for a ferry and caulking our wagon, safely making it across both times. We stopped at Fort Kearney, Chimney Rock, and Fort Laramie all by May 4th. When we stopped at Fort Laramie we got to speak to a Native American named Souix Brave who was very friendly. I must also say, I've been becoming a very skilled hunter, especially out here where the bison population is very high. Some unfortunate news is that Maddie has been taking a beating. She got a snake bite on April 26th and we lost her for three days on May 7th. Ava just came down with typhoid so we're resting for now, hopefully starting back up on our journey in three days. Fingers crossed that this is the only typhoid case we have to deal with because boy is it brutal.

Sincerely, a settler in charge of almost 3 instead of 4
